Setup won't finish or the app won't open
Bitdefender installs several protection modules, so a clean starting point matters. If setup stalls or the app fails to launch:
- Restart the computer and launch the installer as an administrator.
- Remove other third-party antivirus products first to avoid conflicts.
- Download a fresh installer from the official source if the download may have been interrupted.
- Ensure Windows is fully updated and restart once more if updates were pending.
A protection module shows as "off" or "at risk"
If the dashboard reports that a component such as real-time protection, the firewall or web protection is disabled:
- Open the module and toggle it back on; some settings switch off after certain system changes.
- Restart the computer to let all components load in the correct order.
- Make sure the program is fully updated, since a partial update can leave a module inactive.
- If a module refuses to enable, a repair or clean reinstall usually resolves it.
VPN or web features aren't working
Suite features like the built-in VPN or web filtering depend on a healthy connection and current version:
- Confirm you're signed in to the account the feature is tied to.
- Check that your internet connection works outside the feature first.
- Update the software, then sign out and back in.
- Remember that VPN data limits and feature availability depend on your plan — those are set by Bitdefender.
Activation, plan or subscription problems
For a product that won't activate or shows the wrong plan:
- Confirm you're signed in with the account that holds the subscription.
- Re-enter any activation code carefully and check the system clock.
- Update to the current version before retrying.
Account & billing questions
Subscription status, renewals, refunds and account passwords are managed by Bitdefender through your online account. Contact Bitdefender's official support for those. We can help with general activation and setup steps.
High CPU or slow performance
- Let the initial full scan finish — the first deep scan after installation is the heaviest.
- Schedule future scans for idle hours.
- Ensure no second antivirus is running in parallel.
- Keep the program updated to receive optimisation fixes.
Removing Bitdefender cleanly
- Uninstall from Windows "Installed apps."
- Run Bitdefender's official removal tool to clear leftover files.
- Restart the computer.
- Confirm your chosen antivirus is active in Windows Security.
